How to Make a Slime Charm from Dragon Quest with Polymer Clay

For Valentine’s Day, I wanted to make something special for my boyfriend and this idea came up! I took something he likes, like the game, Dragon Quest and turned it into something he can use.

To make the Dragon Quest slime, you’ll need a few materials.

Polymer clay (Oven-bake) in white, French blue, black, and red hot red
Thumb tack
A business card
Wire cutter
Pliers
Jewelry finding (the one with the loop) OR wire
Jump ring
Leather cord or any type of cord will do
Oven or toaster oven

I know the thumb tack and business card aren’t typical tools you would use, but I didn’t purchase any tools needed to make the clay, so these items lying around the house helped me out. I used the thumb tack to smooth out a few lines, add some clay to tiny holes and flatten the clay. I used the business card to scrape off the clay from the surface and to flatten the clay.

Just a reminder, when working with clay in different colors, it can mix with the other colors. Make sure to work with clean hands.

Once you have gathered the materials, grab a piece of the French blue clay and roll it up into a ball. When you have that done, place it onto a smooth surface and pinch the top, and apply light pressure as you push it down. This will give it a curvature. You want to make it similar to a Hershey’s kiss chocolate.

Now it’s time for the eyes. You’ll need to grab a tiny piece of the white clay and roll that up into a ball and flatten it. You’ll need two pieces for the eyes. Place the white clay onto the body of the slime.

Grab a small piece of red clay and roll it up into a ball, place it onto a surface and roll it out as if it were a snake. Lightly flatten it and place that onto the body of the slime accordingly.

Get a tiny piece of black and repeat the same procedure as you did with the white clay. Put these two black pieces on top of the white clay.

You’re almost done! Grab your finding or wire and adjust it by cutting of the end with a wire cutter. If you are using a wire, grab an end and create a loop. At the end of the wire, the one that’s not the loop, slightly bend it. This will give it something to hold onto and it will not fall out easily.

Preheat your oven 275°F (130°C). Once it’s finished preheating, place it onto a baking sheet or a piece of foil and bake it for 15 minutes. Remove it from the oven and let it cool. When it’s cool, place a tiny drop of super glue where the finding was inserted to make sure it’s secure and you’re finished!

I was on a roll and made more charms!

Polymer clay is fun to work with and the possibilities are endless! What charms did you create?
