How to Make an Easter Egg Card for Kids

Easter is just around the corner and here is a fun and easy arts and crafts activity for your kiddos!

What you’ll need:

  • Card stock, 8” x 10”
  • Dot markers
  • Colored construction paper
  • Scotch tape
  • Clear packaging tape
  • Scissors
  • Pen/pencil
  • Laminator or self-laminating sheets
  • Spring/Easter props for the photo shoot

On a nice, sunny day out, get your camera ready for a Spring/Easter photo shoot! I took the babies out to the playground at work and found a nice shady grass area where I laid down a blanket for the kids to lay/sit on. For props, I used egg shakers, artificial flowers, a cute bunny and chick basket, bunny ears, and a sun hat. The kiddos loved being outside and of course they were distracted looking around, but I used this as an opportunity to catch some cute candids. The photos turned out so adorable and the kids had fun too. I also shot the photos vertically. This helps when putting the card together so keep that in mind. 🙂

Now, onto arts and crafts!

First, create yourself a template. I drew a quick sketch onto a piece of card stock paper. When I sketched it out, I made sure to get close to all the edges to get a big sized egg at the end. Draw a zig zag line towards the middle of the egg and cut it out. If you have more than one child, you can use this to trace more eggs out onto card stock. Let me know if you’d like a template! I can whip one up and have it ready to download.

Next, let the child have fun with the dot markers (or whatever drawing mediums you have lying around)! I had the kids pick which colors they’d like and helped them hold the dot markers. Use this time to talk about the colors, what shapes they created, what comes out of an egg, etc. When they’re all finished, allow time for the egg to dry.

On any word document, type ‘Hoppy Spring!” or ‘Hoppy Easter,’ ‘2019’ and ‘Love, (Child’s name).’ I use the font Comic Sans in size 40 for ‘Hoppy Spring’ or ‘Hoppy Easter’ and font size 35 for the rest. Print and cut it out. Tape the words onto any colored construction paper of your choosing to have a little pop of color and cut those out as well. I chose purple and green.

Print out the photo from the photo shoot in 5 x 7. Tape it onto another colored construction paper and cut it out. I used a pastel yellow color for the background.

Once the egg is all done drying, use scotch tape on the backside to stick the words onto egg. Make sure to leave enough space so the words aren’t covered from the photo.

Get your laminator or self-laminating sheets and run/stick the egg and photo from the photoshoot. Cut around and trim off any excess laminated pieces.

After, connect the egg and with the backside on top, lay out the photo on top with the picture facing down. Use scotch tape/packing tape to tape the top and bottom of the photo onto the egg. Flip open the egg and tape the opposite side down too.

And now you have yourself a cute Easter egg card! This will be nice to gift to family members, greeting them a Hoppy Easter or a Hoppy Spring! ?
