In this post, I’ll show you how to make a quick and cute cat plush from Kiki’s Delivery Service!
Kiki’s a witch with a black cat, Jiji and it follows her everywhere she goes. What makes Jiji so cool is that he talks! Of course, only Kiki can hear him talk, and if I remember correctly, so do the other witches and fellow cat companions.
This is a simple and quick DIY project that takes about 10 minutes to do, plus it’s a no-sew! Whoo-hoo! Your fingers will be free of pricks from a needle. It’s completely up to you if you choose to sew or not, depending on if you want to have neat edges. I think the no-sew using the fabric glue came out clean.
Here are the materials you’ll need:- Felt (Black, white, red)
- Scissors
- White-colored pencil or chalk
- Pencil (for the white felt)
- Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive
- Paper
- Optional: Needle and matching thread
- Decide how big you want Jiji to be. Once you do, begin to sketch an outline of Jiji onto the paper.
- Place your paper over the black felt, making sure it fits nicely and is how you like it.
- Cut out the paper outline of Jiji and put it aside. You will use this piece twice for the front and back pieces.
- Back to your paper, repeat steps 1 and 2, and cut out one piece for the white parts of Jiji’s eyes. Set that aside. You will use this pattern twice for the eyes.
- Now you are ready to trace the paper patterns onto the appropriate colored felt. Cut them out and set them aside. You should have:
- 2 black pieces for the body
- 2 white pieces for the eyes
- To make the bow, you are going to freehand and cut two red rectangle pieces from felt, making sure one piece is longer and the other shorter. With the larger rectangle piece, pinch the middle and wrap the smaller rectangle piece in the middle. Glue it down with the Fabri-Tac glue and set it aside.
- Now, you are going to freehand and cut out whiskers for Jiji. Cut out black four black pieces for Jiji’s whiskers and set them aside.
- Lay one black piece of the body down and place the whiskers where you want them to be and glue the whiskers down.
- Place the other black body piece on top and glue it down making sure to leave a hole at the bottom of the body. This is where you are going to stuff it.
- Next, glue the white pieces for Jiji’s eyes and then glue the bow on.
- Again, you are going to freehand and cut out a small, red, oval piece for Jiji’s nose and two small, black, oval pieces for his pupils. Glue the small pieces in the appropriate places.
- Lastly, with the remaining scrap pieces, stuff Jiji! Glue the opening and your Jiji plush are complete!
